A 45 acre site on the banks of the River Thames makes Shiplake College an ideal location for
pupils who love sport. Rowers train on an idyllic stretch of the Thames and can also travel
two and a half miles upstream to make use of the beautiful Henley Royal Regatta course.
The College has a large Sports Hall, Fitness Room, Sports Studio and two Squash Courts.
The Astroturf provides hockey training facilities while matches are played on Astroturf at
Henley and Sonning. In the summer the Astroturf is used for tennis alongside the College's two
grass courts.
Cricket, hockey, rowing, rugby and tennis are the College's main sports. Fixtures are played
Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. In recent years there have been three cricket tours to Barbados,
rugby players toured South Africa in 2004 and went on to win the Oxfordshire U19 cup, Senior rowers
have trained in Switzerland and the USA.
Teams also compete with other schools in badminton, basketball and soccer. There are also many highly
competitive house competitions. Inter-house athletics, cross country, basketball, football and rugby
are fiercely contested.
