Year 9 Scholarships
Each year three scholarships are offered for Year 9 pupils who are registered
for a places for the following September. Potential scholars are recommended by
their current school. The standard for scholarships is high and the application
must be endorsed by the pupil’s subject teachers and a written reference. The
Year 9 Scholarship Day takes place in March each year. |

Art
Candidates are required to bring to the scholarship day a portfolio showing work
done, both in and outside the school environment and, if possible, a sketchbook
showing interests. Scholarship candidates who have interesting 3D work should
bring this along or if it is not possible, have photographs of such work. |

Music
Candidates should be of Grade lV standard and above in their first study
instrument. Good sight reading ability is an advantage as is some keyboard skill
and a sound knowledge of music theory to Grade lV. Reports from all their music
teachers should be sent to the school one week prior to the scholarship day. |

Sport
Candidates should not only be talented and skilful players, but should show
qualities of leadership and a depth of understanding in their chosen sport. They
are likely to be of County Standard. They must send in one week prior to the
scholarship day a written record of all their achievements during the past two
years together with references from coaches or trainers. |

Sixth Form Scholarships
Candidates studying at the College and external candidates registered for Sixth
Form entry in the following September are invited to apply for an Academic
Scholarship if they are forecast to achieve top grades in their GCSE results. |

Applications
On the Sixth Form Scholarship day, which usually takes place in late February,
candidates take examinations in two subjects that they have studied at GCSE and
are likely to study at AS Level. They also sit a General Academic Aptitude Test
and have two interviews with the Heads of Department in their chosen speciliast
subjects. |
